This 1.9-mile segment (which I call 01-J) is one of the 2 segments I checked out back in August when I was looking at unadopted sections of the Ouachita Trail that I might want to adopt. It connects Forest Road 6014 to the Winding Stair Campground trailhead. It has a few up-and-down climbs, but generally it is not a difficult walk.

Approximate Elevation Profile Based on GPS Data
At the Winding Stair Campground trailhead, there is a pit toilet and a parking area. There is a spur trail that connects to a hiker camping area and to Winding Stair Campground.
From the trailhead, the Ouachita Trail then continues east crossing the Talimena Scenic Drive.
As is true on most of Winding Stair Mountain, there are some beautiful views from this segment.
I have posted a photo I took with my cell phone as well as a GPX file I made with my gps.
