The Oklahoma State Parks Facebook page has posted a request for cleanup assistance at Lake Thunderbird State Park (near Norman).
The May 10, 2010 Oklahoma tornado outbreak did an estimated $13 million in damage to property at Lake Thunderbird including widespread damage at the park.
Oklahoma State Parks is asking for volunteer groups to assist with cleaning up the extensive tornado debris at the park.
Here is the announcement:
Several weeks ago a tornado caused widespread damage at Lake Thunderbird State Park near Norman. Debris is still spread out along a large area. The park could really use help from groups or organizations who could volunteer time to clean up debris from the shoreline and around the trees. Be sure to bring your own gloves, tools to pick up trash and plenty of drinking water.
All volunteers must check in at the park office on Alameda before proceeding to a clean-up area. The park will provide trash bags. For information on how you can help, call 405-360-3572. Any help you can give this wonderful state park would be much appreciated!
