This is a short but vigorous trail. It takes you from the Lodge overlook down to the reservoir that was part of the 1890′s Wilhelmina Inn water system. Back in November when I was attending the annual meeting of the Friends of the Ouachita Trail at Queen Wilhelmina State Park (near Mena, Arkansas), I hiked the Lover’s Leap Trail for the first time. It turns out that I missed the best part.
Good news. As of today, the trails at Queen Wilhelmina State Park are open again. I would assume that means they have not had any recent bear sightings. [Photo: Pixelperfectdigital.com] Arkansas State Parks has announced a temporary trail closure at Queen Wilhelmina. Here is the announcement from the QWSP website:
And an ASP tweet added: “Bear sightings due to the berry season. Just trying to keep everyone safe, bears included.” [See this post for update.] [Update: 2010-09-04 (broken links removed)] |
