Devil's Den Suspension Bridge Over Lee Creek Damaged From 2011 Flooding

A few weeks ago, I visited Devil’s Den State Park to walk the cave trail. While there, I drove around the park to see if any damage from the spring floods was still visible. Some of it is.

You can still see the demolished suspension bridge over Lee Creek. It had been rebuilt after flooding in 2004. Sadly, it was destroyed again this spring by uprooted trees floating down the flooded creek.

You can also still see quite a few of the uprooted trees in the creek.

Devil's Den Trail - Devil's Den State Park

In June of last year, I had an enjoyable walk on the Devil’s Den Trail (which I usually refer to as the “Cave Trail”) at Devil’s Den State Park.

Even though the caves have been closed since last April due to concerns about the possible spread of White Nose Syndrome to the bat population, this is still a very nice trail.

In fact, this is probably a good time of year to walk the trail since there should be plenty of water at Twin Falls. (For more info about the trail, see this post.)

Here are some of the photos I took. Click photos for a larger view.

This past Monday, April 25, there was significant flooding at Devil’s Den State Park, Washington County, Arkansas. This was sad news for fans of the park–especially because a lot of repair and restoration has been done at the park since the 2004 flood.

At this point, it appears that there has been no significant damage to the dam as there was in 2004. There is substantial damage at Campground A, at the picnic area, and to the recently rebuilt suspension bridge.

Yellow Rock Trail - Devil's Den State Park

Yellow Rock Bluff – Devil's Den State Park

Last week, I had a nice hike on the Yellow Rock Trail at Devil’s Den State Park. There was not much foliage yet, but the blooming dogwood and red bud trees were very pretty.

On the trail, I ran into Ed and his dog Prospect. They also have a website.

Here are a few photos I took. Click photo for larger view.

Back in early November, I hiked the Devil’s Den Trail (the cave trail) again at Devil’s Den State Park.

Twin Falls on Devil's Den Trail

The Devil’s Den Trail is one of the most-popular trails in Arkansas. It is the best way to see many of the cave and rock features that make Devil’s Den State Park unique.

This 1.3-mile loop is easy-to-moderate with only one significant uphill climb.
