Autumn is a great time of year for hiking. The temperatures are much more pleasant than in the summer, and nature puts on a great show of color.
Here are some fall photos I took in late October at the North Rim Trail at Mount Magazine State Park.

Last Saturday, my girlfriend and I were at Mount Magazine State Park and walked on the North Rim Trail to Dill Point (about .8 miles). It was a very nice walk as water was flowing in School Creek and Dill Creek. As usual, the view from Dill Point was beautiful. Here are some of the photos I took. (Click for larger view.) A couple of weeks ago on January 15, I headed to Mount Magazine hoping to get some good snow photos. I did a walk on the North Rim Trail. Most of the snow had already melted, but I did get some nice photos of snow and of the beautiful scenery. I also made a new gpx file which I used to update the gpx trail map on this post. Here are some of the photos I took. You can click them for a larger view. The Benefield West Loop trail at Mount Magazine State Park is an easy .9-mile loop. It is almost completely flat and about half of it is on old forest roads. This is not a scenic-view trail, at least during leaf-on (summer, early fall, late spring). But you should take a minute to look at the pond. The Signal Hill Trail at Mount Magazine State Park near Paris, Arkansas, is a trail that every Arkansas hiker should do at least once. It takes you to the top of Mount Magazine’s Signal Hill which is considered the highest point in Arkansas at an elevation of 2,753 feet. Interactive Mount Magazine Signal Hill Trail Loop GPX Map If you’re wondering if there is something special once you reach the highest point in Arkansas, there is. Aside from the sign (see photo above) designating the spot, there is a large rock map of the state of Arkansas with different types of rock designating the state’s different geographic regions (e.g., Ozarks, Crowley’s Ridge). |
