Reservoir Trail trailhead – Queen Wilhelmina

This is a short but vigorous trail. It takes you from the Lodge overlook down to the reservoir that was part of the 1890′s Wilhelmina Inn water system.

It is about .8 miles (round trip) down to the reservoir and back. With an elevation change of about 200 feet, be ready for a climb when you head back up this short trail.

1800's Spring – Queen Wilhelmina

At 0.3 miles, the Spring Trail is one of the shortest trails I’ve hiked in an Arkansas State Park. It is also one of the easiest, with very little elevation change.

I would assume that means they have not had any recent bear sightings.

Ouachita Trail 03-AB – Queen Wilhelmina to Hwy 88

Saturday, I hiked what I have labeled as segments 03-A and 03-B of the Ouachita Trail. This is a 2.5 mile section that begins at Queen Wilhelmina State Park and continues East until it intersects with Highway 88 (of the Talimena Scenic Drive). The first half-mile or so it is the same as the State Park’s Lover’s Leap Trail.It’s not that difficult trail segment overall. There is some up and down climbing, but there are also long stretches on a relatively level ridge.As you would expect, the trail has some great views from Rich Mountain.2009_1205_150538Since it was already the middle of the afternoon by the time I reached Highway 88, I decided to head back to my car via the highway (making it a 5-mile loop).
